England eliminate Senegal, will play France in World Cup quarterfinals

England cruised to a 3-0 win over Senegal in the round of 16 to book their ticket to the quarterfinals at the 2022 World Cup

The Three Lions will face France in a world football classic quarterfinal match on Dec. 10.

Senegal offered solid marking for the first half hour but England finally pierced Senegal’s defence in the 38th minute. Jude Bellingham connected with Jordan Henderson and the veteran Liverpool midfielder scored his third career goal for the national team.

Harry Kane scored his first goal of the World Cup at the brink of halftime, leaving Senegal with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Phil Foden then found Bukayo Saka with a low cross near the penalty spot to give England a three-goal advantage by the 57th minute. Saka netted his third goal of the competition, bringing the Arsenal forward level with Marcus Rashford as England’s top scorer in Qatar.

With Senegal’s elimination, Morocco are now the only African nation remaining at the World Cup. African teams have failed to qualify for the World Cup quarterfinals since Ghana defeated the United States in 2010.
