Everything You Need for a Complete Spring Wardrobe, According to Your Style Type

It’s been pointed out to me before, but one thing that became apparent to me since I started working in fashion is that I’ve never subscribed to a particular aesthetic. What I end up wearing invariably depends on my mood, and some days that’s a T-shirt and trainers, and other days I’m a dresses-and-heels kind of girl. But, it’s becoming clear from the trending aesthetics and the reoccurring “in my era” posts filling my feed that I might be in the minority.

As fashion lovers we can’t help but form groups—not necessarily cliques, but more style by association—and you know the ones. The uber-cool minimalist dressers who manage to look like off-duty models in the simplest of ensembles, the fun-loving party girls who favour feathers and sparkles, and of course the suited and booted power-dressers who are always business first. Whoever you are and however you dress, there will be a mood that speaks to you. We naturally become a community that just can’t help but move in packs (just look at fashion week street style for further proof). Not sure what your style is? Maybe you’re “in your experimental dressing era”.

With plenty of new trends, colours and brands emerging for spring 2023, what is next for the fashion gang? Well, given the multitude of references to draw from, you needn’t compromise your own style, there is quite honestly something for everyone this season. Exhibitionists, minimalists, avant-garde print lovers and traditionalists, come as you are. I’ve thought about everything you’ll see and love for the season ahead, and the very best ways to showcase your personal style. And, for those who tick several boxes, even better. You get to make the most of them all, and variety is the spice of life after all.

So if your wardrobe is in desperate need of a seasonal refresh, keep scrolling to find the best spring wardrobe buys for your style tribe. This spring and summer are already looking good.

Style Notes: I salute you minimalists, your dedication to an understated uniform of well-curated neutrals means your style never dates, but it can also come across as a little bit better suited to winter months. But hey, who says you can’t wear black in spring? I for one rely on faithful black all year round, just break your head-to-toe tonals with a pop of colour to help lift you look.

The perfect cardigan to wear as a top with nothing underneath.

A satin skirt is a new, timeless classic.

Elegant ballet flats are our current flat shoe obsession.

Hand woven and intricately braided with strips of 100% leather.

Style Notes: Sometimes you’re in a blazer and jeans, other times in a suit (but always with trainers), the business/casual dresser has mastered the art of high/low dressing to a (logo) T. Knowing your love of putting together basics and elevated separates, you can repurpose the staples you invested in over winter with a springy update. Wearing a wide leg trouser? Add a tank top and biker jacket. Maybe a chunky knit? It’ll be perfect with a mini skirt and knee-high boots.

It doesn’t get chicer (or cosier) than this.

A modest mini to wear with flats for day, and platform heels for night.

I’ve never seen a pair of knee-high boots I didn’t love, and these are no exception.

Talk about some serious arm candy…

Style Notes: Grey British weather calls for one thing, plenty of colour–something bright dressers know all too well. Having harnessed the benefits of dopamine dressing, bold dressers always shine in the kind of colour-clashing many would shy away from. Colour trends might not necessarily be on on your radar as you like to wear them all (and often at once), but if spring 2023 is telling us anything, it’s that this year is going to be big for green, pink and orange.

A trench coat is always a wise investment–we’ve even found 6 new ways to wear them.

Tell me you aren’t already dreaming of sunnier climes just by looking at this shirt.

Add a matching trouser, and you’ve got an unmissable co-ord that stands out for all of the right reasons.

Remember how the summer of 2022 was all about fisherman sandals? Well they’re sticking around for 2023.

Style Notes: Let’s be honest, if there’s one piece in our wardrobes that we can always rely on, it’s the dress. Whether you’re going casual or dressing up, dress lovers know there is a style and shape for every occasion, no matter the weather. From slinky evening slips to voluminous, puff-sleeved beauties, spring is made for dresses, so make the most of the seasons joyous colours and prints by stocking up on the one-piece wonders that take the hassle out of getting ready.

A dreamy dress worth waiting for the sun for.

The Bottega Jodie is already a Who What Wear favourite, but it’s even better in this springy shade of pistachio green.

Comfy all-day wear, guaranteed.

The perfect finishing touch to any look.

Style Notes: If you spend your Saturdays and Sundays brunching and shopping in oversized shirts, relaxed tailoring and practical flats, you are the ultimate Weekender. Often found post-gym in leggings instead of sweats, and crew-necks instead of hoodies, your style is lounge-luxe (with an emphasis on the luxe), and you always manage to make even the most basic jersey feel polished. Spring is your opportunity to shelve the puffer coat that you lived in all winter and layer up in cashmere, linen and casual cotton.

There’s something unbeatably stylish about a crisp, blue shirt.

Comfy enough for snuggling up at home, and luxe enough to wear outdoors too.

If you’re looking for something to tempt you out of trainers, you just found them.

A raffia bag well worth investing in. You’ll wear this throughout spring and summer this year, and the next, and the next.
