Sam Bennett won’t be in the Calgary Flames lineup against the Winnipeg Jets, according to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis.
The decision comes days after Elliotte Friedman reported that Bennett is looking for a “change of scenery,” according to his agent Darren Ferris. According to Francis, the Flames were blindsided by the report as no formal trade request had been made.
Francis reports that Thursday’s decision was made by the team’s coaches and that no “breaking news” is expected to follow.
Bennett has reportedly been unhappy alternating on the third and fourth line this season. The former fourth overall pick from the 2014 NHL Draft has just one assist in nine games this season.
