The Philadelphia Flyers are trading defenceman Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-way deal also involving the Los Angeles Kings, Sportsnet can confirm.

As part of the trade, the Kings are sending goaltender Cal Petersen and defenceman Sean Walker to the Flyers. Other details of the trade were not immediately known.

Provorov made headlines in January when he refused to wear the team’s Pride uniforms during warmups and instead stayed in the locker room, later citing his religious beliefs.

“I respect everybody’s choices,” Provorov said after the game. “My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion. That’s all I’m going to say.”

The seven-year veteran has 65 goals and 152 points in 532 games, all with the Flyers. He is under contract for two more seasons with a $6.75 million cap hit.

Petersen began last season expected to take over from Jonathan Quick as the primary starter for the Kings but was demoted to the AHL at the end of November after getting off to a slow start. Petersen, 28, is under contract for two more seasons with a $5 million cap hit.

Walker, 28 is a defensive defenceman who has skated in 236 career games over the past five seasons.
