Forget Skinny Jeans—Baggy Jeans Are Destined to Take Over in 2021

You’d be forgiven for thinking that most people have given their jeans a break this year and favoured leggings and jogging bottoms. However, denim is a category that has been rising in demand this year, and MatchesFashion saw a 50% growth in jeans sales in 2020. Denim has been heavily featured in the spring/summer 2021 collections, and the key shift we saw was a move from slimmer silhouettes to a more relaxed, slouchy fit.

It’s the shape and comfort of your jogging bottoms but using classic washes and more distressed denim. Victoria Beckham added jeans to her main collection for the first time and said to The Guardian, “I lived in vintage jeans all the way through lockdown. Although, I will have you know that I never once turned to an elasticated waist, except for in the gym.” Beckham isn’t the only designer to create a baggy, wide-leg pair of jeans, as we saw these across all the major houses, including Balenciaga, Paco Rabanne, Chloé, and Celine. Although we saw different washes and silhouettes, they all had really high waistlines and were cinched with a black leather belt.
