October baseball always seems to create unlikely heroes.
David Fry took that title on Thursday night, as his go-ahead two-run homer lifted the Cleveland Guardians to a 5-4 Game 4 win over the Detroit Tigers and forced a winner-take-all Game 5.
Fry came in at the top of the seventh as a pinch-hitter, replacing designated hitter Kyle Manzardo. One swing of the bat was all it took for him to etch his name into Cleveland folklore.
He later added an insurance run in the ninth inning, bringing home Steven Kwan on a perfectly executed squeeze play to make it a two-run lead.
Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday.
More to come.
