George Springer to make Blue Jays debut Wednesday vs. Nationals

Star outfielder George Springer will make his long-awaited Toronto Blue Jays debut Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals.

Springer will serve as DH in the game and hit leadoff in the batting order.

The Blue Jays signed the 31-year-old to the largest free-agent contract in franchise history — $150 million over six years — but he missed the first 22 games of the season with a quad strain and an oblique injury.

Springer joined the Blue Jays after seven years with the Houston Astros, where he was World Series MVP in 2017 and a two-time Silver Slugger. For his career, Springer has hit .270/.361/.491 with 174 home runs and 458 RBI.

The Blue Jays go for a two-game sweep of the Nationals with Steven Matz on the mound Wednesday night. You can watch the game on Sportsnet ONE and SN Now beginning at 7:07 p.m. ET/ 4:07 p.m. PT.
