The Vegas Golden Knights have eliminated the Winnipeg Jets from the Stanley Cup Playoffs after winning 4-1 in Game 5 of their opening-round series on Thursday night.
The Jets were victorious in Game 1 but lost four straight with injuries to key players. Star defenceman Josh Morrissey sustained a lower-body injury during Game 3 that kept him out of the lineup for the remainder of the series while forward Mark Scheifele, who led the club with 42 goals during the regular season, missed Game 5 due to an upper-body injury.
Forward Nikolaj Ehlers made his playoff debut in Game 5 after being sidelined with an upper-body injury.
Chandler Stephenson, with two, Mark Stone and William Karlsson scored for the Golden Knights, while former Jets goalie Laurent Brossoit got the win in net.
The Jets broke his shutout bid when Kyle Connor beat Brossoit with Connor Hellebuyck pulled for an extra attacker with 5:38 left.
