Golden Knights stun Oilers at buzzer to win Game 3

The Vegas Golden Knights have life in Round 2, and what a way to do it.

The Golden Knights took Game 3 against the Edmonton Oilers after a shot by Reilly Smith was deflected into the Oilers’ net by Leon Draisaitl with 0.4 seconds remaining in the game, standing as the flukiest game-winner of the Stanley Cup Playoffs thus far.

This came just after the Oilers thought they had done enough to force overtime when Connor McDavid tied it with three minutes remaining in the third.

William Karlsson has earlier put the Golden Knights ahead in the final minutes of the middle frame on the tail end of a long shift in the offensive zone, wiring home a passing play with Noah Hanifin.

A pair of first-period goals by Corey Perry put the Oilers up by two, but the Golden Knights made quick work of erasing the deficit, with markers from Nicolas Roy and Smith evening the score.

The Golden Knights played much of the game without their captain, Mark Stone, who exited Saturday’s contest in the first period with an upper-body injury.

Game 4 takes place Monday in Edmonton.

More to come.
