Granlund helps Finland earn OT win over Sweden at 4 Nations Face-Off

Finland broke through with its first victory at the 4 Nations Face-Off as Mikael Granlund scored in overtime to beat Sweden 4-3 Saturday.

Granlund beat Linus Ullmark five hole to give Finland a vital win as it now has two points.

Sweden made a goaltending change at the start of the second period after Filip Gustavsson allowed two goals on four shots in the first.

In relief of Gustavsson, Linus Ullmark came in and allowed two goals on 17 shots.

Kevin Lankinen made 21 saves in his first appearance in the tournament for Finland.

Sweden struck first as an errant pass by Aleksander Barkov ended up on the stick of Mika Zibanejad in the slot, and he beat Lankinen.

Anton Lundell got Finland on the board midway through the first after his shot got past Gustavsson. Mikko Rantanen then got his first goal of the tournament after burying a cross-ice feed from Patrik Laine on the power play.

Early in the second period, Sweden was able to tie the game as Joel Eriksson-Ek was able to get to a loose puck in front of the net and pass it over to Rasmus Dahlin.

Sweden was able to get its first lead of the game as Nylander took the puck from his own end and passed it to Erik Karlsson who beat Lankinen to make it 3-2.

Finland would respond later in the second period. Olli Maata threw the puck on goal, and it hit Barkov’s stick in front to tie the game 3-3.

Canada takes on the U.S., with the winner of that game taking the top spot in the standings. Because of Finland’s OT win, only the U.S. can clinch a spot in the final with a win on Saturday night.
