Here's the Swimwear Trend Outshining All the Rest This Season

Swimsuits weren’t always the most exhilarating swimwear option. That is, until Georgiana Huddart’s reboot of Hunza G’s seersucker swimsuits in 2015. This year, the y2k resurgence is a strong current infiltrating even the stealthiest of fashion items. As a result of the cut-out trend, the repute of swimwear has had a 360-degree revamp and cut-out swimsuits are now considered a highly coveted resort wear piece for summer 2022.

This year, swimsuits are showing up and showing out beyond the realms of the practicality quota, and they’ve blown the itsy bitsy bikini out of the water. Featuring a multitude of designs, from discreet keyhole detailing to wide oval gapes and angular airwaves, the variants are strong and sexy.

Thanks to the cut-out trend, swimsuits have been given a new lease of life. They’re finally on an equal level playing field with bikinis, if not more appealing. Many styles feature angular gapes on either side or flirt with the asymmetric trend. Brands including Peony and Sir have accomplished identical designs to their ready-to-wear collections, so you’ll find twinning dresses and swimsuits.

If you’re looking to update your holiday capsule with a playful option, then keep scrolling for some stunning cut-out swimsuits.

This design alludes to the free reign of ’70s fashion. I can’t help but think of Woodstock.

Sir bring their A-game to everything they do, including swimsuits. Just like their similarly designed midi, the circular ruching complements the shape of this style.

A tiny peek-a-boo cut-out. See the back for another surprise.

Marysia is best known for scalloped edge swimwear. The high placement of the cut-out is reminiscent of a ’50s style high waist two-piece.

Hunza G has given their staple one-piece a flash of skin update.

Fella Swim pieces feature an inner lining designed with fuller busts in mind.

A ruched side cut-out is my favourite cut. It’s understated and follows the natural curves and dips of the body.

A beautiful piece made from regenerated fishing nets!

Ted Baker made a modern style feel classic, thanks to the addition of the side bow.

A subtle metallic sheen runs throughout this swimsuit.

Big and little cut-outs with the crossover back and loop detail front.

The teardrop keyhole is a subdued cut-out design. Paired with the halterneck style and neutral trim, you’ll feel extra chic sunning on the beach with a wide brim hat to match.

I’m really impressed with Mango swimsuits this year. This one encompasses the cut-out and string tie-around trend.

The burgundy hue looks beautiful under the glistening sun. If this isn’t quite the colour for you, fear not as there are many more to choose from (including a personal favourite, Penny)

Asymmetric swimwear and cut-outs go hand-in-hand. All Saints emphasised this design, with a slashed shoulder strap.

The triple bow details are a great addition to a classic cut.

Tory Burch is a firm favourite of mine. Their swimwear is just as good as their ready-to-wear pieces.

A cut-out design that offers more support in the form of taught, wide panelling.

The French-style cut-out iteration comes in the form of a dainty bust cut-out.

Noire’s latest releases are so special. This piece also comes in the sweetest lavender, bronze, emerald green and timeless ivory.

M&S Swimwear is getting better each year!

As seen here, the cut-out has many forms. The plunge neckline with a looped keyhole and side gapes. Tick, tick, tick.

Twinning cut-outs for double the fun.

A classic cut with an oval-shaped cut-out gives the allusion of a cropped top paired with a high-waist brief.

Bond girl but 2022. Guaranteed, this bronze swimsuit was made with glistening tans in mind.

Made to appear like a two-piece with an adjustable bust tie.

A swimsuit version of Christopher Esber’s ruched cut-out maxi dress.

Never did I think I’d see jacquard and swimsuit in the same sentence, but as per, Agua by Agua Bendita has made this a heavenly match.

Functional ruching can turn this into a slightly high-leg fit.

The cut-out placement with the halterneck style is a clever way of ensuring bust support!

This two-toned swiss dot design (with a peek of side midriff) has a sports-luxe feel.

There are many wonderful details here—the two-tones, ruching and sculptured bodice make this a stand-out piece.

Not only is this ruched swimsuit a beauty, it’s also made from 90% recycled fibres.

One of Hunza G’s latest offerings, which if I might add are getting fancier by the season!
