I Asked London's Coolest Stylist to Find Topshop's Most Expensive-Looking Buys

As much as I enjoy partaking in the lesser-known sport of high-street fashion hunting, it gives me so much pleasure to hand over the baton to other industry experts who can add their own perspectives and tastes into the mix. I discovered Marisa Martin’s through her work with the Topshop Personal Shopping Instagram page, and ever since I have followed her personal account and relished her clean-lined, timeless approach to fashion. So I figured, who better to pick out the best, expensive-looking pieces from Topshop’s autumn/winter collection?

Naturally, she did not disappoint, and her edit comprises of dream velvet suits, high-shine patent coats, classic denim and versatile accessories. “I’m always on the lookout for a new coat when September hits, and love to make a statement. For me this season, it’s all about the oversize leopard-print and updated matte trench or a PU trench for that high fashion look,” Marisa explains. “I’m also a huge fan of statement leather pieces. It’s easy to throw on Topshop’s little black dress and toughen up the look with some ’90s grunge knee-high boots. The chunky boot definitely isn’t going anywhere this autumn.”

If you’re in need of a little style guidance this season, scroll down to see and shop Marisa’s Topshop picks for the new season. Some of the pieces have not yet dropped, but we will be updating them as they go live. Watch this space!

Style Notes: This is definitely my favourite piece from Marisa’s edit. I’m a sucker for a ’70s suit, and this one comes in the coolest shade of green.

Style Notes: This dress is sure to be an autumn hero, as you can easily dress it up with heels, as Marisa has here, or keep it casual with chunky boots.

Style Notes: The leopard-print coat has become an unlikely but undeniably chic addition to the classic coat canon. Throw over everything from midi dresses to leather trousers.

Style Notes: I am loving the ’80s-inspired pie-crust collar on this star-print minidress, almost as much as I love the way Marisa has styled it with a pair of don’t-mess-with-me combat boots.

Style Notes: Leather coats are having a moment, but they are no flash-in-the-pan trend. Keep it classic with a pair of flared jeans and a black roll-neck.

Style Notes: This leather tunic can be worn with tights and boots or layered over a roll-neck and jeans. A multitasking hero.

Style Notes: A throw-on-and-go is never a bad idea. Make this leopard-print number work for winter with boots and a chunky cardi.

Style Notes: Leather separates are still going strong, and this dagger-collared top is one of the best I’ve seen on the high street.

Style Notes: If you’re bored of camel coats, make a statement with a high-shine vinyl piece. Just add black jeans and a black roll-neck.
