Serena Williams hinted that retirement might not be far away after winning her first singles match for more than a year.
The 40-year-old defeated world No 57 Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-3, 6-4 at the Canadian Open in Toronto for her first taste of success in singles since the French Open last spring.
