Here at Who What Wear UK, we are all obsessed with natural, dewy makeup looks. We love that ‘lit-from-within’ finish on the skin, and as junior beauty editor, I am constantly on the lookout for products to help achieve this.
Over the years, I have tried my fair share of serums, glowy foundations and highlighters to see which ones really work, and which ones make no difference whatsoever. One particular product that I go back to time and time again is a liquid highlighter.
For me, liquid highlighters always come out on top because of how versatile they are. You can apply them before foundation, mix them in with your foundation or apply on top of your makeup depending on what kind of finish you want. So, when I heard that Gucci had recently launched its first-ever liquid highlighter, I knew I had to give it a go.
The product is called Gucci Beauty Illuminateur de Beauté Liquid Highlighter, and it looks just as luxurious as you would expect. Housed in a gorgeous clear and gold bottle, it comes with a pipette style applicator and a twist-on lid.
The golden drops have been designed with all skin tones in mind, and are meant to create a radiant glow on the skin. So, would this product live up to the hype? Keep on scrolling for my honest review…
I know I’ve already briefly touched on the packaging, but it really is one of the biggest initial selling points in my opinion. Not only does it look chic, but the slim bottle makes it easy to travel with, and the pipette applicator means you can pump as much product as you want onto the back of your hand. Although this might be messy for some, I like having full control over how much highlighter I am applying, so this was a big plus for me.
The formula itself is enriched with black rose oil, daisy and lily flower extracts and a moisture complex to help hydrate and soothe the skin. It is very lightweight, which makes it easy to blend, and I definitely noticed that my skin felt soft after using.
On first go, I decided to use this as just a highlighter, but I will definitely be mixing it in with my foundation next. I applied it with both a small fluffy brush and my fingertips, and thought that both worked really well.
I added it to the tops of my cheekbones and the end of my nose, and I was so impressed with how dewy it made my skin look. If you are someone that likes a really bold, statement finish, then I would say that this probably isn’t for you, but for those of you who are looking for a subtle, lit-from-within glow, then I couldn’t recommend this enough.
Although I loved the golden colour, it’s hard for me to say whether this shade would suit all skin tones, and it would definitely be a big plus to see more shades added to the range.
However, the thing I did like about the golden hue was that it caught the sunlight beautifully, and two of my friends actually commented on how nice my skin looked when testing this product.
It seems I’m not the only one. In fact, one Harrods Beauty customer wrote a review saying, “I felt my skin had gotten quite dull so I decided to order this highlighter. I just put a few drops on my face and blend in with my foundation and wow I can’t stop getting compliments on my skin. It really works for me and I love it.”
Before I continue raving about it, it’s worth mentioning the price. £37 is quite a lot for such a small bottle, but that being said, a little goes a long way. After using it myself, I would guess that one bottle would last you a good few months, which makes justifying the cost a little easier.
Although it’s more of a luxury purchase, as someone who is constantly trying to achieve that fresh, glowy look, I could definitely see myself buying this again and again. If you want to give it a go yourself, then keep on scrolling…
