I'm a Coat Snob, and I'm Losing It Over H&M's Expensive-Looking Styles

Hi, I’m Emily, and I love coats. If you try to argue with me that another clothing item does more to make outfits look amazing, then we’ll probably be here a long time. As a stylist and fashion editor, I know a great coat is my secret weapon for impressing with my wardrobe, especially during work events like fashion month when the pressure is on to look our best. The thing is, you can be wearing the simplest pair of jeans and a T-shirt underneath, but add a great coat, and you instantly have a “look.”

This obsession with great outerwear also means I’m seriously picky when shopping for it. Because I count on coats so much, I’m a big believer in investing in fewer really amazing styles you’ll reliably bring out year after year, which usually means I avoid the high street. But recently, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about H&M’s outerwear offering. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever come across a high-street edit that is so impressive across the board. There’s not just one hero H&M coat this year but many to choose from.

In particular, its wool and wool-blend styles seem to be hitting the mark and combine chicness with the timeless quality I’m looking for. There are a number of cosy styles if you’re wanting to invest in a coat to keep you warm right now (and for many winters to come), but there are also some great transitional designs in creamy colours and lighter fabrics that will see you through spring as well. Keep scrolling to see (and shop) for yourself.

It’s giving Toteme.

This navy blue always looks so expensive.

A reliable staple that will go with everything.

I’m styling this with white jeans and my Boston’s.

The oversized lapel is so chic.

This looks so cosy.

Camel coats are truly timeless.

So fresh.

This is high on my wishlist.

Buy now, wear forever.

Lighter wash coats have a really chic feel.

I can’t believe this is only £40.

You’d never guess this was from the high-street.

I have a feeling this will be very popular.
