I'm a Shopping Editor, and These Are the Best Buys From M&S's Latest Drop

At this point, I have to admit– the unexpected treasure trove that is Marks and Spencer, is now my worst kept secret. There was once a time that I could wear my latest finds confident in the knowledge that no one knew where I’d gotten them from, so I wouldn’t be spotting them anywhere else, but after being relentlessly asked “where did you get those boots from?”, “which designer bag is that?”, and even “your skin looks good, what did you use?“, I had to cave and share the truth.

If you’re not yet shopping at Marks and Spencer, it’s likely because you think it’s just going to be cashmere and sensible slacks, but allow me to convince you otherwise. While there is plenty of cashmere (which is never a bad thing), and M&S do make “sensible” clothes that turn out to be wise investments (check out the fit of their jeans for example), there are also plenty of expensive-looking staples that should deserve in a place in your everyday wardrobe.

Everyone needs a good jumper, jacket and pair of shoes that go with everything, and unlike some high street stores that keep prices low by churning out quick trends, I can vouch for the fact that I’ve been wearing the same pair of M&S leather knee-high boots every winter for almost 5 years, so just think of the cost per wear.

To save you time on scrolling through the extensive new-in section, I’ve done the work for you, and I’ve thought of everything you’ll need for the season ahead. From cosy knits and the best fitting jeans, to their premium looking boots and accessories, if you’ve been wondering what to wear in spring, think of this as your new capsule wardrobe. You’re welcome.

Buckle up, spring is about to be trench coat season.

The perfect weekend jacket to wear with black jeans and ankle boots.

And speaking of black denim, there’s a fitted, cropped jacket too.

While there’s still in a chill in the air, a fluffy borg jacket will be the best way to stay warm.

Love leggings but bored of black cotton? Try these textured cord leggings that also come in navy.

A high-waisted, wide-legged fit with leg lengthening properties.

All the best bits of wearing leather trousers but with a relaxed, comfortable waistband.

At this price, I’ll take two.

Just add blue jeans and Mary Janes for a nod to French girl styling.

A fine enough knit to wear under a blazer? I’m sold.

A simple roll neck is the ideal layering tool. Wear under Oxford shirts, jackets, dresses and even another jumper.

XXL bags are a key trend for S/S’23, and with slouchy, suede totes like this, it’s easy to see why.

Every wardrobe needs an elegant, supersized shopper.

A sleek new must-have for crossbody bag devotees.

Forget eveningwear, a leather clutch like this deserves its moment in the sun too.

The wearable heel to put an end to carrying emergency plasters.

It’s official–Marks and Spencer make the best affordable boots on the high street, hands down.

Remember the fisherman sandals we wore all summer? They’re back (for now), so stock up while you get the chance.
