I’m Convinced These H&M Basics Make Every Outfit Look More Elevated

All hail H&M. Honestly, as a fashion editor, I look at a lot of new-in products every day across high-street and luxury fashion. And after all these years, the affordable hero still manages to pull it out of the bag with some of my favourite wardrobe pieces each season. The H&M design team just seems to know exactly what I want to wear, which right now is elevated capsule pieces that make me look like I have a much bigger budget than I actually do. And the latest new-in drop serves exactly that purpose.

It’s full of simple, minimalist wardrobe basics with a stylish twist. Think chic knitwear, ribbed tops with modern sweetheart necklines and expensive-looking tailoring with just the right amount of designer slouch, all in a palette of creams, navy, greys and neutrals. Not to mention, so many of the best pieces come in under £40.

Of course, if you’re looking for wardrobe staples like these with more longevity and premium fabrics and you’re in a position to invest more, it’s always worth doing so. But as we head into the spring months, if you’re looking for some affordable pieces to upgrade your holiday wardrobe or refresh your date-night outfits, I really recommend scrolling down to see this edit for a guaranteed confidence boost. My one piece of advice? Don’t hang around on the pieces you fall for. We all know how fast a cult H&M piece can sell out.

I just know this is going to sell out soon. Add a trench coat and sneakers or dress it up with heels and a clutch bag.

H&M’s tailoring offering is so good right now, and these simple but incredibly chic high-waisted trousers are the latest to catch my eye.

I love these cowboy boots, which come up slightly lower on the leg than other pairs, ensuring they’ll look great with skirts and dresses.

These mid-wash jeans go up to a size 30.

This classic herringbone blazer looks so expensive. Pair with the matching skirt or wear with leather trousers.

Simple yet so effective. Take inspo from the brand, and pair this ribbed sweetheart top with cream tailored trousers.

H&M can always be relied on for fantastic knitwear at affordable prices. I’ll wear this striped number with ecru denim and heeled boots.

Add this to blazers or dresses for a styled-up look.

Switch up your white shirt for a black one for a fresh take on the classic. It will still go with so many of your wardrobe staples, from wide trousers to jeans.

Last year, everyone was loving knitted vests, and thankfully, they’re still just as popular. Layer over shirts and dresses for extra cosiness this season.

This is such a chic layering piece to throw on with jeans (or button it up and wear it on its own).

This is a beautiful all-rounder dress that will take you from the office to after-work drinks, and for such an affordable price.

Cardigans work so hard during the transitional period. Layer this green ribbed knit under coats or over dresses and T-shirts.

The double-breasted design makes this affordable blazer look so premium.

I’ve been wearing a lot of these sporty sweaters under blazers lately.

You can always count on a ribbed midi dress to make you look—and feel—instantly put-together.

Every season H&M does one smash hit shirt and this is the current frontrunner.

H&M’s knit dresses are the best on the high street.

This one-shoulder design looks so much more elevated that a regular long-sleeved top.

Wear these faux leather trousers with the above top for a sultry evening look. Very Sandy from Grease.

A great layering piece.

All our editors love this two-piece.

Just look at this silhouette…

Wear with wide-leg trousers or jeans and boots.

Effortlessly chic.
