I didn’t mean to become the unofficial lingerie correspondent for Who What Wear, but somehow I seem to write about boobs a lot. It’s not that I don’t love underwear, I do, just as much as the next person, but it’s more to do with how much my own lingerie needs have changed over the years, specifically when it comes to bras. From wedding prep to being a runner, as well as pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and post-pregnancy, my bra size has run the gamut. Not only have I spent a lot of time trying various bras on, but I’ve also spent a lot of time chatting with the experts on what makes a great bit of lingerie .
Today, I’m turning my attention to summer lingerie. Yep, it’s a thing. I mean, of course, it is. Come summer, you’ll end up wearing less clothing and items that are made of less material. Gone are longer sleeves, and in their place will be strappy slip dresses, sleeveless tops, and perhaps a backless blouse. This means that you’re likely to need underwear that works for this seasonal shift in your wardrobe. While I might have some expertise in finding new bras for your shape, I always speak to experts when it comes to understanding trends and what to look out for.
I spoke to Georgia Larsen, the founder of one of my favourite British lingerie brands, Dora Larsen. The label specialises in cool brightly coloured (but importantly, not garish) pieces. And as it consistently nails it when it comes to chic lingerie, it makes sense to speak to Larsen about what to expect with the warmer weather approaching.
Below, you’ll find some great tips on what to look out for with your summer lingerie: 1. Think about material: Try a stretch tulle fabric. It’s almost like a mesh, but it’s stretchier. It’s soft and really breathable fabric so will be lightweight enough for summer. 2. Don’t follow trends: Larsen goes with what she loves, so you should too. There are so many great options for different-coloured pieces right now. You can choose what you want. 3. Show off your underwear in a subtle way: If you’re a fan of slip dresses and simple tanks it’s quite difficult to avoid the flash of a bra. If it’s not your thing, opt for a subtle colour such as a copper. Or go for a bold colour and embrace it. 4. If you have a bigger bust, don’t worry: Daintier, lightweight bras aren’t just for smaller cup sizes. Try a non-padded bra with underwire.
