I'm Planning My Autumn Wardrobe—These 5 Basics Will Be Front-Runners

Autumn is my favourite season for fashion. It probably has something to do with my love of back-to-school shopping as a child and that idea of starting off fresh for a new season. On that note, I usually start researching autumn outfit ideas and trends in August so that I’m ready when that first cooler day comes. Today, I thought I’d specifically focus on the basics I’m interested in adding to my rotation this fall.

Given that basics are the backbone of my wardrobe, I pay a lot of attention to this category. Below, you’ll find the simple fall basics I’m feeling right now as well as those trendier basics that could have the power to become new mainstays in my wardrobe. Bomber jackets resurged again in a noteworthy way for spring, and I can’t wait to jump on the trend for autumn with an oversize silhouette.

Keep it classic with an easy-to-style black bomber jacket.

Frankie Shop knows a thing or two about creating a cult item.

This cropped bomber jacket is fabricated in leather for a vintage feel.

A real stand-out.

The oversized fit is perfect.

My jeans have been getting looser and looser over the last few seasons, and this fall, I’m going to embrace styles in darker washes to bring polish to my looks.

Note the sharp pleat detail down the centre of the legs.

Style with chunky boots and a cosy knit for autumn days.

This cut is so flattering.

The deep, dark fade will work for evenings, too.

A high-rise style that falls loosely to wide legs.

Autumn means cardigan weather, and I always love a knit in a camel hue. That ideal style just feels so elegant.

A soft wool and alpaca mix.

A lightweight style that’s perfect for layering.

For a luxurious feel, opt for a cashmere finish.

Wear half-tucked into jeans or over a dress.

Note the intricate cable knit work.

I have a staple denim jacket, but I want to add a fresh one to my rotation to wear with additional denim picks or cool leather pieces.

This cropped style has a retro feel that’s accentuated by the oversized fit.

Freshen up your denim selection with a crisp white version.

This contemporary style takes on the safari silhouette.

Pair with the matching denim mini skirt for 90’s touch.

I’m not sure what I love more – the balloon sleeve or the patch pocket details.

As I mentioned above, I prefer a lot of my pieces to have a more relaxed silhouette these days, so I can’t wait to live in an oversize knit come fall.

With raw hem details for a relaxed edge.

Stripes are a french-girl staple.

It’s almost turtleneck season, and I can’t wait.

Every wardrobe needs a bold pop of colour.

This tactile jumper is sure to keep you cosy.
