The New York Islanders have signed restricted free agent Mathew Barzal to a three-year, $21-million deal, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Barzal had 29 goals and 60 points in 68 games last season, adding 17 points in 22 games during the Islanders’ post-season run to the Eastern Conference Finals. The highly skilled centre has been absent from training camp while working on a new contract.
In 232 career NHL games, Barzal has 207 points, good for a points-per-game mark of 0.89.
