The New York Islanders have defeated the Boston Bruins, 6-2, in Game 6 and will advance to the third round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
A tie game after the first period, back-to-back goals from Brock Nelson gave the Islanders a 3-1 lead. Kyle Palmieri added another to stretch the lead to 4-1, assuring the win despite a late goal from Brad Marchand to narrow the score.
An empty-netter from Cal Clutterbuck sealed the series.
New York will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round of the playoffs, a repeat of last year’s semifinal matchup, which saw the Lightning win the series in six games en route to an eventual Stanley Cup title.
More to come.
