I've Assembled 5 Easy Outfits Around This Cosy Staple

Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you I practically live in my Arket borg gilet. It has been one of my most worn pieces over the last few months, and I find that it suits so many different looks; something that came as a bit of a surprise. The extra layer adds interest to an outfit, a layer of warmth when styled under a coat, and it looks just as great thrown on over a T-shirt as it does over knitwear.

It’s also been one of my most-asked about items on via Instagram, so I know that lots of you will be looking to invest in your own cosy gilet right now, especially as it’s currently freezing outside. My exact gilet has sold out, but there are lots of similar options still available, a handful of which I’ve laid out for you below, along with the pieces I’d style them with for different occasions. Scroll on to see how to style a gilet in five easy outfits.

Style Notes: I’m fortunate enough to live near the coast so, when I head on out for a beach walk, the first thing I reach for is this Breton-stripe jumper and borg gilet combination. The sherpa-lined welly boots are an added toasty bonus.

I wear beanies on the regular, and this Arket style is perfect.

M&S does it again with this fleecy gilet.

A knit that will never, ever date.

The everyday bag our editors really rate.

I always snap up my leggings from H&M.

These are one of my all-time favourite purchases. So cosy.

Style Notes: Brunch is one of my preferred weekend activities, and it always calls for a comfortable outfit. Enter a knitted dress layered with a relaxed gilet over the top.

I like the button fastening on this beige style.

Every outfit is improved with the addition of sleek sunglasses.

I’m tempted to add this knitted dress to my collection.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is a fan of Strathberry handbags.

Knee boots make any outfit look glossy.

Style Notes: I love tailored trousers as they’re so versatile to wear. For evenings out, just add a camisole and heels. For low-key days spent browsing the rails, trainers, a tee and my trusty gilet are ideal and give my wide-leg trousers a casual spin.

If you’re looking to invest in a designer style, this is the one for you.

I love the relaxed fit of this tee.

I always recommend COS tailored trousers; these have the perfect slouchy fit.

Don’t you just love the clasp?

New Balance are my current shoe go-to.

Style Notes: If you want to look polished when you’re on the go, a tailored coat is the answer. Right now, I’m constantly layering mine with my borg gilet for a cosy extra layer.

You’ll never regret investing in a classic black coat.

Instantly iconic.

Don’t disregard the men’s section.

Just as comfortable as your leggings. That’s a promise.

For the days when you’re brave enough for bare ankles.

Style Notes: Whether you’re a gym bunny or simply subscribe to the athleisure aesthetic, a gilet will blend in seamlessly with your leggings and running shoes, as it tapping into the activewear vibe.

See what I mean about Arket beanies? Perfect.

The silver zip makes this gilet look all the more premium.

The ideal throw-on top.

Honestly, I pretty much live in these leggings.

Matching your socks to your sweater is a surprisingly satisfying styling trick.

These continue to be very in-demand kicks this season.
