The mini skirt is having a moment right now but, for me, it’s more than a trend. I love a good mini skirt and have been wearing them ever since my teens. They are classic, versatile and can be styled so many different ways… and they’re not just for summer! I love wearing mini skirts all year round. My younger self couldn’t wait to grow up and wear mini skirts at my own whim; they have gone from a “daring” wardrobe piece to a classic staple. I saw them worn in the ’90s by Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell who made them, in my opinion, iconic. A regular in my wardrobe rotation, you can find a trusty mini skirt amongst most retailers. This & Other Stories style is made from recycled fabrics, is a “true” mini skirt length. Here are five sleek ways I plan on styling it this winter.
Style Notes: Stripe knitwear is a mainstay in my winter wardrobe; the more oversized and baggier the silhouette, the better! The idea behind this look is that the knitwear remains the focus, while the mini skirt act as an accompaniment. For colder months I’d layer this look with a coat and, yes, you can always add opaque tights, too.
This chunky knit is a timeless piece to rely on year after year.
The architectural Musubi works well with brown or black outfits.
The mini skirt that all my looks revolve around.
The perfect knee-length boots do exist.
Style Notes: This Arket knit works so well tucked into this mini skirt. I’ve gone double wool with throwing this & Other Stories wool coat over the top, which is the perfect length to tie and wrap around your legs if needed. The loafers give it a smart edge, worn with socks to make this outfit more appropriate for winter. Comfortable footwear is always at the top of my agenda and these loafers do not disappoint; they require no breaking in. This is the mini skirt and shoe combination I wear most often.
This coat could pass for double the price.
Don’t disregard the menswear department.
I love that this can be layered up for the cooler months, but also styled simply when spring comes around.
An investment worth making.
Carry by the top-handle, or wear crossbody.
Style Notes: This look is versatile and practical (I hope you’re starting to see a theme here). This is a great outfit to wear to the office, then to venture out after work; add a beanie and a knit hanging effortlessly around your shoulders for added warmth and a cool “I’ve just thrown together” look. For me, an all-black outfit is always a winner; I then use my Celine belt and Sandro boots to create some contrast with the hardware.
I love the oversized fit of this boxy blazer.
This cosy knit also looks great wrapped around your shoulders.
The triomphe emblem really breaks up this tonal look.
So many great outfits from one simple skirt.
The gold hardware is a nice touch.
Style Notes: My statement Totême coat is definitely the main character in this look; it’s all about the cover-up. I like to wear a minimal outfit underneath, which, in this instance, consists of my mini skirt and a roll neck top. Understated knee high complete the minimal look (and will keep your legs toastier in the process).
The coveted scarf-coat that launched the trend.
The smooth leather adds to the clean silhouette of this bag.
Mango’s best pieces come in sizes up to 4XL.
This comfortable pair of boots can be worn all day long.
Style Notes: One of my favourite ways to wear a blazer is with trainers, and my trusty mini skirt and my Nanushka sweatshirt help pull this outfit together. This is a great running errands ensemble. My ACNE Studios bag really elevates this look; black and brown styled together will always be one of my go-to combinations. You can tuck the sweatshirt in for more of a streamlined silhouette but I also enjoy the relaxed untucked look as adds to the casual appeal.
Black blazers have become a wardrobe staple.
For a smart-casual look, pair your skirt with a relaxed sweatshirt and chic blazer.
