I remember where I was the first time I went for a run. I was on my Erasmus year 15 years ago in Toulouse, stuck in my halls of residence and desperate to get out and move my legs. I was slow, stopped regularly and didn’t go very far. I continued running regularly, even though I wasn’t very good, but gave up once I was back home from university. Then, 10 years ago, I moved to London and was in need of some form of exercise that was A) free and B) easy (ish) to do, so I decided to pick it up again. This time, thanks to advances in technology, I had apps and an iPhone with my playlists on to get me through. However, I still found I wasn’t quite getting my distance up, so I turned to the Couch to 10K app, which I completed. I then managed to knock out a 10K during the weekends and even trained for a half-marathon. Throughout all that time, there’s one thing I’ve never compromised on: decent trainers.
