I've Pre-Planned My Summer Party Outfits, and They Look Like This

Out of all the fashion-based dilemmas in life, what to wear to a party has got to be one of the trickiest, as so many factors come into play. From how fancy or dressed-down to be, as well as working out which shoes won’t give you blisters seconds after you leave the house, it’s a veritable minefield of environmental and aesthetic hazards. Oh, and that’s not to mention the added layer of social distancing.

As a self-confessed planner (yes, I’m one of those people who decide their outfit the night before), I’ve been scouting out key pieces to wear to parties this season. In my opinion, it’s better to plan ahead to avoid a panic-buying situation. Careful thought is so much more likely to lead to a smart investment you’ll wear for many seasons to come.

My outfits have largely been formed around one standout piece—be it an unusual trim or a distinctive dress—paired with complementary (but not limelight-stealing) accessories. This season, I’m enjoying balancing pops of lime green and powder blue with more muted tones such as brown and black, alongside an injection of frou-frou feathers and plenty of power dressing.

So if you’re on the hunt for a summer-ready party outfit, feel free to take inspiration from my ensembles. Whether you’re going for cocktails or attending a garden party, there’ll be a look for you. Scroll down to see my full edit.

Style Notes: Make an entrance at your next summer wedding with Ganni’s dreamy feather-trimmed midi. Just add printed heels for maximum impact.

Style Notes: When it comes to power dressing, you really can’t go wrong with a suit. Update the look for the warmer months with a shorts iteration in a pop of purple.

Style Notes: I’ve always loved Sleeper’s feather-trimmed sets, and they now come in an array of colours, including this fab pea green hue. Comfy, cool and, well, just fun, this is perfect for everything from cocktails to a smart dinner party.

Style Notes: Everyone loves a good nice top–and-jeans outfit, and it’s always been my go-to for drinks or dinner with friends. I’m all about wide-leg jeans right now, and this H&M pair makes for a perfect partner with Uterqüe’s fab frou-frou blouse. All it needs is gold earrings, a mock-croc bag and Bottega’s acid-green heels, and you’re good to go.
