Jets’ Aaron Rodgers undecided about playing in 2025

Aaron Rodgers is making no promises about returning in 2025.

A few weeks after saying he felt he wanted to play next year, the New York Jets star quarterback backtracked a little on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, saying he’s undecided if he plans to suit up again at age 41.

“I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option,” Rodgers said.

The Jets are 3-8 this year and the four-time MVP has battled several injuries during the season.

After reports emerged over the weekend that the Jets might bench Rodgers, the team announced he will start again on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rodgers was acquired after the 2022 season to bring a Super Bowl to the Jets, but his first campaign ended before it could even get started, as he suffered a torn Achilles just four plays into the season opener. In Year 2 with New York, the Jets are poised to miss the playoffs for a 14th season in a row, the longest active run in the NFL.

Head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas both were fired earlier this season.

The Athletic has reported that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers in late September, but was talked out of it.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported the Jets owe Rodgers more than $38 million next season, including a $35-million roster bonus that must be exercised before the 2025 season. It is not guaranteed.
