The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Connecticut Sun 78-71 in Game 4 Sunday to win the first WNBA championship in franchise history.
The win caps a historic season for the Aces under first-year head coach Becky Hammon. Las Vegas finished atop the WNBA standings with a 26-10 record in the regular season and defeated the 2021 champion Chicago Sky to win the in-season Commissioner’s Cup. The Aces also cleaned up at the annual WNBA awards, with A’ja Wilson winning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, Jackie Young winning Most Improved Player of the Year and Hammon winning Coach of the Year.
