Like It or Not, Clogs Are Back, and They're Coming to Get You

Among the Who What Wear team, I’m known for loving an “ugly” shoe. Case in point: my thoughts on how Crocs are going to be big in 2021. While that might be an “ugly” shoe too far for some, style-adjacent to the Crocs is the clog, which is also coming back for 2021. It might seem like the same shoe but is actually a little different, and (sorry Crocs), much cooler. Last summer, I was drawn to clogs when I spotted Fabrizio Viti‘s daisy versions. I own a pair of the denim ones and while I didn’t have anywhere to wear them last summer, I can’t wait to style them à la Lucy Williams and pair with socks.

As for the rest of fashion, I can really pinpoint the moment we turned towards loving clogs and that was when Hermès debuted the style in its most recent collection. Now, I know we say the word chic a lot in fashion but these. were. chic. Simple, elegant shined leather in beige, brown or black with contrasting studs lining the sides. The clog heel was low, so it could easily be a shoe you’d wear everyday. I could imagine wearing these with jeans and a white shirt or my favourite brightly-coloured summer dress. Ultimately, it was clear that there was real craft put in to creating these shoes. And they are a thing of beauty. But if Hermès feels a little out of your price range, then fear not as there are plenty of other designers offering up this shoe. From Isabel Marant to Gucci’s open-toed versions, there are plenty to choose from to get ahead on what I predict will be a big shoe trend for 2021. Keep scrolling for more…
