The Y2K renaissance has treated us to a lot of unexpected trends in the last couple of years. Cargo pants and mini baguette bags we might have seen coming, but one thing we weren’t prepared for was a denim “do-over”, when all of a sudden our reliable straight-legged jeans would be traded in for the low-slung ultra-baggy styles of our teens (complete with fraying hems). For those of us who weren’t entirely convinced by the wide-leg jean, an alternative would soon emerge that combined the effortlessness and relaxed silhouette of the baggy jean, but with a little more polish–the long denim skirt.
If there’s one item that’s been consistently popping up on our feeds and in street style photos over the last few months, it’s undoubtedly the denim skirt, and while maxi skirts have been enjoying a comeback this season, it’s the denim ones that have captured our attention. High-waisted or low-rise, indigo wash or coloured, there’s undoubtedly something about this ’70s-inspired bohemian vibe that feels worth investing in for spring and summer, and it just so happens that we’ve come up with a myriad of stylish ways to style them, too.
The more I think about it, the more long denim skirts makes sense as the perfect transitional piece to add to your spring wardrobe too, as they cover far more leg than the mini (and let’s face it, it’s still chilly outside), but most also sport a slit for extra airflow. We already know that denim goes with everything, so you can pair this hardworking hero with anything from tank tops to chunky knits, so you’re covered whatever the weather.
So, if you’re sold on the denim skirt trend but don’t know where to buy the best, I’ve rounded up 17 long denim skirts in every colour and wash, and both midi and maxi lengths, so I’m convinced that you might just find the skirt worth shelving your everyday jeans for. Oh, and they’re also broken down into budgets too, so you might just the find “the one” for £35. Happy shopping.
