Maple Leafs’ Matthews breaks Sundin’s franchise goals record

Auston Matthews is now the greatest goal scorer in Toronto Maple Leafs history.

With his 420th and 421st goals as a member of the Maple Leafs on Saturday, Auston Matthews broke Mats Sundin’s record for the most goals in franchise history.

Matthews scored twice against the New York Islanders in the second period on Saturday to break the record.

The 28-year-old Maple Leafs captain now has 421 goals and 339 assists in 663 games, all with Toronto.

Sundin finished his career with 564 goals, but scored 144 of those in his first four seasons with the Quebec Nordiques.

More to come.
