The Maple Leafs will have to readjust to life without their superstar for their outing against the Islanders.
Toronto forward Auston Matthews will miss Saturday’s game against New York after reportedly re-aggravating an injury he suffered earlier this season, Sportsnet has confirmed.
He is reportedly questionable for Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Matthews, 27, suffered an undisclosed upper-body injury earlier this year, causing the three-time Rocket Richard winner to miss nine games between Nov. 5-27. He re-entered the lineup on Nov. 30 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
When originally placed on the injured reserve in November, the superstar travelled to Munich, Germany to see a specialist for the injury.
Matthews, in his first year as the team’s captain, has tallied 11 goals and 12 assists in 24 games. Since returning from his injury, he has six goals and six assists in 11 games.
The Maple Leafs are slated to take on the Islanders at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
