Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray left the team’s morning skate with discomfort in his groin. His status for Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators is yet to be determined.
Murray was projected to be the starting goaltender for Saturday’s game against the Senators as he occupied the home net during morning skate. It would be Murray’s first start against his former team since being traded to Toronto during the off-season.
If Murray can’t start, Ilya Samsonov will get the nod after picking up the victory in the Leafs’ home opener against the Washington Capitals. Murray allowed four goals on 23 shots in Toronto’s 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on opening night.
And should Murray be unable to be on the bench as a backup, the team might have to sign an emergency backup with Erik Kallgren leaving Friday’s Toronto Marlies game with an injury.
