Maple Leafs on brink of elimination after OT loss to Panthers in Game 3

The Florida Panthers grabbed a commanding 3-0 series lead and have the Toronto Maple Leafs on the brink of elimination thanks to a 3-2 overtime win in Game 3.

Sam Reinhart scored the game-winning goal 3:02 into the extra period.

Toronto came out flying to start, and Sam Lafferty opened the scoring with his first goal of the playoffs and giving the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Unfortunately for the Maple Leafs, starting netminder Ilya Samsonov left Sunday’s Game 3 with an undisclosed injury after a collision with teammate Luke Schenn early in the second period.

Joseph Woll replaced Samsonov in net and was scored on by Panthers forward Anthony Duclair soon after entering the game, tieing the contest at 1-1 early in the second.

Erik Gustafsson would restore the one-goal lead for the Maple Leafs midway through the second, but Carter Verhaeghe would answer for the Panthers once again to even the score at 2-2.

The two teams will now enjoy two days of rest before Game 4 goes Wednesday from FLA Live Arena. You can watch the game live on Sportsnet and SN NOW at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
