The Toronto Maple Leafs are trading defenceman Rasmus Sandin to the Washington Capitals for defenceman Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round pick (originally owned by the Boston Bruins), Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.
Sandin has four goals and 20 points in 52 games this season for the Leafs. The 22-year-old signed a two-year, $2.8 million contract extension back in September 2022.
Gustafsson has seven goals and 38 points in 61 games for the Capitals this season. The 30-year-old joined Washington on a one-year, $800,000 deal this past off-season.
The pick going to Toronto was acquired by Washington in the trade that sent Dmitri Orlov to Boston.
