Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander exited Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens after suffering an apparent upper-body injury.
The incident occurred at the 7:44 mark of the first period as the Leafs were chasing down the Canadiens in transition. Teammate Nick Robertson pushed Nylander with the end of his stick, knocking him onto the ice and into the leg of Montreal’s Christian Dvorak.
Nylander stayed down on the ice and grabbed at his head after the play. He immediately went to the team’s locker room.
He didn’t play another shift in the first period and did not return to the ice for the second. The Maple Leafs said he was removed for precautionary reasons.
The 28-year-old had a standout year with Toronto last season, appearing in all 82 regular season games and finishing with 40 goals and 58 assists for 98 points. He also had three goals in four games in the playoffs.
