The Seattle Mariners used a late comeback to down the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 5 of the ALCS.
Trailing 2-1 entering the eighth inning, Seattle took advantage of Toronto’s bullpen, as Cal Raleigh homered and Eugenio Suarez hit a grand slam to lift the Mariners to a 6-2 win and 3-2 lead in this ALCS.
Brendon Little gave up the first homer to Raleigh, then walked the next two hitters before the Blue Jays turned to Seranthony Dominguez, who hit Randy Arozarena and gave up the slam.
It was Suarez’s second homer of the game.
Kevin Gausman delivered a solid start once again in these playoffs, working 5.2 innings of three-hit, one-run ball while striking out four.
The only damage he allowed came on Suarez’s second-inning homer.
Toronto scored in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead back. In the fifth, Springer scored Addison Barger with a two-out double, and Clement’s one-out single brought a rumbling Alejandro Kirk in from second to steal the lead in the sixth.
But it wasn’t quite enough as the Mariners got the solo homer from Raleigh in the eighth, setting up the late dramatics.
The series will now shift back to Toronto, where Seattle took the first two games. Trey Yesavage is scheduled to pitch for the Blue Jays, and the Mariners have yet to name a starter.
More to come.
