- American wins giant slalom at Åre to tie career wins record
- Shiffrin, 27, can break all-time mark in Saturday’s slalom race
Mikaela Shiffrin surged into history on Friday, winning a giant slalom in Are, Sweden, for her record-tying 86th win on the World Cup skiing circuit, a number that equals Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark’s mark from the 1970s and 80s.
The American star’s combined time over two runs was 0.64sec better than Italian Federica Brignone.
