Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo says Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will focus on playing first base and designated hitter rather than third.
Montoyo says playing third will still be an option for Guerrero Jr., but it will not be his main position any longer.
Travis Shaw is expected to slot in at third.
The 21-year-old Guerrero Jr. made 94 starts at the hot corner in 2019, his rookie campaign, finishing with a .936 fielding percentage and minus-0.7 defensive WAR, according to Baseball Reference.
Due to his size — he’s currently listed at 6-2, 250 pounds — many prognosticators have long expected the Blue Jays to shift Guerrero Jr. across the diamond to first.
