Morrissey says knee injury would’ve sidelined him for rest of Jets’ playoff run

Even if the Winnipeg Jets had found a way to continue their playoff run, it’s unlikely Josh Morrissey would have returned to the ice.

Morrissey gave an update about the left knee injury he sustained during the Jets’ season-ending media availability on Tuesday, saying the issue won’t require surgery but that he likely would have been out for the rest of the playoffs.

“I basically knew kind of right away that I was injured, and obviously I felt something, so just frustration,” Morrissey said.

Morrissey left Saturday’s game late in the second period after getting tangled up with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen, who seemed to land on the Jets’ assistant captain’s left leg awkwardly.

The top blue-liner has struggled through injuries and various issues all season.

“This year, just getting sick in the Four Nations, getting hurt in Game 7 (of the first round) and then having a freak injury in Game 6 (of the second round). It was just frustrating, frustrating this year that those situations happen,” he said.

“But you can feel sorry for yourself, or unlucky, or whatever you want, but it is what it is. You just got to go back to work and continue to get better and prepare for next season and be ready for those moments when I get a chance to be in them again.

Morrissey also revealed the reason he sat out Game 1 against Dallas was due to concussion protocol following a hit he sustained in the Jets’ Game 7 win over the Blues.

Luke Schenn also provided an injury update, revealing he cracked a couple of ribs in Game 2 against the Blues.

“It’s not an excuse, you’re trying to battle through that while not being hesitant was the grind,” Schenn said.
