Rafael Nadal completed an epic comeback defeating Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 Sunday to win the Australian Open and his 21st Grand Slam title, giving him the most in the men’s game.
Nadal was tied with fellow greats Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic for first on the all-time list with 20 apiece entering the year’s first major.
The 35-year-old Spaniard won the tournament after missing the final six months of the 2021 season with a foot injury.
He sealed the deal with a win over reigning U.S. Open men’s champion Medvedev — arguably the greatest hard court player on tour — who finishes as the runner-up in Australia for the second-straight year.
More to come.
