What’s better than a new sweater for Christmas?
Just in time for the holiday shopping craze, the NHL and Fanatics unveiled the brand-new, throwback uniforms to be worn at the 2025 Winter Classic by the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues on New Year’s Eve.
Modelled by captains Nick Foligno and Brayden Schenn, as well as stars Connor Bedard and Colton Parayko, the clean-looking drip hits online and brick-and-mortar shops Wednesday — well before the Central Division rivals face off outdoors at Wrigley Field on Dec. 31.
The Blackhawks’ Winter Classic sweater features an old-school lace-neck collar and swaps white stripes for a cream colour evoking the Original Six era. The front crest is accented with stars from the Chicago city flag, and the back numbers incorporate subtle pinstripes, a tribute to Chicago’s beloved Cubs. The Blackhawks will also be rocking the classic brown glove look.
The Blues’ uniform also nods to its city’s sporting heritage. The sweater’s primary wordmark represents the first time in team history that a Blue Note is not the principal design element appearing on the chest. The font styling and numbers are inspired by an unworn prototype Blues uniform from 1966. The jersey also includes a vintage-style “Blue Note” on the shoulder. Fleur-de-lis designs line the inside back neck and hem loop labels to honour the city of St. Louis.
Additional Winter Classic merchandise — toques, outerwear and more — is also available now at league and team shops to hype the league’s midseason spectacle.
The Blackhawks-Blues showdown at Wrigley marks the NHL’s 16th Winter Classic and the 42nd regular-season outdoor game.
