Super Bowl LVII was an instant classic. Patrick Mahomes dominated despite playing on one leg, Jalen Hurts rushed for three touchdowns as a QB and both teams traded scores until the last minute.
But in the end, the biggest play of the game might’ve come from the men in white and black stripes.
The play came with the score tied 35-35 at 1:52 of the fourth quarter, when Mahomes threw an incomplete pass to Chiefs receiver Juju Smith-Schuster on third and eight at Philadelphia’s 15. But there was a flag on the play.
Eagles cornerback James Bradberry had slightly tugged Smith-Schuster’s jersey, and the referees were all over it — giving the Chiefs an automatic first down on a holding call and essentially securing Kansas City’s victory as the team ran out the clock before kicking an easy field goal to take the game 38-35.
As we know, fans never ever take issue with officials playing a significant role in a game’s result (right call or not)…
