Week 5 got off on a sour note with Friday’s news that Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to miss at least a month after sustaining a finger injury to his throwing hand in Thursday’s loss to the Rams.
It’s significant news during a pivotal week for the much talked about NFC West.
The Cardinals are hosting the 49ers Sunday in the hopes of remaining the NFL’s only unbeaten team. The last time Arizona began a season 5-0 was way back in 1974. If the 49ers, who will turn to rookie Trey Lance, pull off the upset it’ll be the first time since 2014 that no team managed to get to 5-0.
With the 2-3 Seahawks now without Wilson, this game’s stakes are all of a sudden elevated.

Sunday’s featured contest is a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship and it should be a doozy.
The Bills and Chiefs boast two of the top offences in the NFL and are among the odds-on favourites to contend for the Super Bowl this season.
Will KC be able to run the ball as effectively as they did in their two wins over Buffalo last season. They racked up 245 yards on the ground in their lone regular-season meeting and another 114 in that 38-24 playoff drubbing.
Are fans overvaluing how good the Bills are this season based on dominant wins over outmatched opponents? Are some of those same fans focusing too much on Kansas City’s 2-2 record while overlooking how dominant the Chiefs offence has been – costly turnovers are the primary reason they’re not 4-0.
This is an excellent matchup with shootout potential.
Will this be Urban Meyer’s final NFL game?
Trevor Lawrence’s rookie season was supposed to mark a turning point for the Jacksonville Jaguars, however it appears the hiring of head coach Urban Meyer is backfiring and so far it’s been the same old Jags.
The team is 0-4 and an off-field incident earlier this week resulted in Meyer making a public apology and Jags owner Shad Khan releasing a statement in which he said Meyer “he must regain our trust and respect.”
That is not a good sign for a young team this early in the season. If they get their doors blown off and look lifeless against the Titans on Sunday then come Monday morning we could all be reading articles about the failed coaching experiment in Jacksonville.
