NHL Draft prospect Ivan Miroshnichenko diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

NHL Clubs were notified Tuesday that top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Ivan Miroshnichenko was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be taking time off from hockey.

The initial announcement was made by the Russian Hockey Federation.

The positive news is that Miroshnichenko was told his diagnosis is the most common form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and is curable. He is undergoing treatment in Germany. A certain high pick in the upcoming draft, he indicated his determination to return to the sport as soon as he can.

An 18-year-old left winger from Ussuryisk, Russia, Miroshnichenko ranked ninth in Sportsnet’s 2022 NHL Draft prospect rankings February edition. According to Sam Cossentino, his “shot and skating ability translate well already and he’s not far off with the rest of his game.”

Miroshnichenko, Russia’s captain at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last summer, has 10 goals and 16 points in 31 games this season.
