Veteran forward Nick Bjugstad has been traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Edmonton Oilers, Sportsnet can confirm.
The Oilers send a third-round pick to the Coyotes in the deal and Arizona retains 50 per cent of Bjugstad’s salary (cap hit, $900,000).
Bjugstad is in the midst of an improved season, with 13 goals and 23 points that put him on pace for the most points since the 2018-19 season.
The 33-year-old will provide the Oilers some bottom-six forward depth and is capable of playing both centre and on the wing. And with just a $900,000 cap hit for the remainder of the season, Bjugstad likely had plenty of suitors on the trade market.
This trade allows the deep-rebuilding Coyotes to retain another future asset, something they certainly had in mind when they signed Bjugstad as a free agent last year.
