The Edmonton Oilers added some veteran experience to their blue line by acquiring veteran defenceman Mattias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.
The return in the trade was not immediately known.
The move comes hours after the Oilers shed some salary by moving Jesse Pulujarvi to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Ekholm, 32, is a 10-year NHL veteran who doesn’t provide a lot of offence but can log big minutes in all situations.
This season, Ekholm has five goals and 18 points in 57 games.
Ekholm is in the first year of a four-year, $25-million contract that carries a $6.25 million cap hit.
