Oilers beat Predators for 16th win in a row, one away from tying record

The Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of making history, but they’ll have to wait more than a week to try to enter the record book.

Edmonton extended its win streak to 16 games with a 4-1 win over the visiting Nashville Predators on Saturday.

The Oilers are now tied with the 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets for the second-longest win streak in NHL history, one victory back of the record set by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, the Oilers now enter their bye week and won’t play again until Feb. 6 in Vegas against the Golden Knights. If the Oilers win that one, they can break the record Feb. 9 in Anaheim versus the Ducks.

Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl each had a goal and an assist and Zach Hyman added an empty-netter.

Draisaitl’s goal, making it 2-0 in the second period, marked the 800th point of his career.

Stuart Skinner‘s shutout bid was spoiled by Colton Sissons with 6:35 left.
