Oilers blank Rangers, stack second consecutive win

The Edmonton Oilers‘ first win streak of the season is officially underway.

The defending Western Conference champions blanked the New York Rangers 2-0 on Tuesday night for Edmonton’s second consecutive win after dropping its season-opener to the Calgary Flames.

Tuesday’s victory also marked the Oilers’ first road win of the 2025-26 campaign, led by Trent Frederic, who scored the contest’s opening goal. The centre’s first marker of the season came off a pass from Kasperi Kapanen mid-way through the middle period, before Adam Henrique found the back of an empty net in the final frame for his first goal of the season and a bit of insurance.

Meanwhile, Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner stopped all 30 shots he faced as he posted his first shutout of the season.

As for the Rangers, they now hold the infamous honour of being the lone team in NHL history to be shutout in their first three home games of the season, falling to 2-3-0.

The Oilers stay put in the Big Apple for their second of five consecutive road games, visiting the New York Islanders on Thursday.
