Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid will be sidelined for one to two weeks with an upper-body injury suffered during Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
McDavid appeared to be in discomfort at parts of the game, grabbing at his left hip area after colliding with Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey near the Oilers bench.
“I didn’t walk back there yet but it looked to be more muscular… just to me as I watched during the play,” head coach Jay Woodcroft said Saturday night.
In five games this season, McDavid has two goals and six points after registering a career-high 64 goals and 153 points last season. He is coming off his first 60-goal season, in which he led the NHL with 153 points.
The Oilers are 1-3-1 five games into the season after they dropped Saturday’s contest after Mark Scheifele netted the overtime winner for the Jets.
The injury timeline means McDavid will be unavailable for the Oilers when they host the Flames in the Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium next Saturday.
