Oilers edge Panthers, trim deficit to 3-2 in Stanley Cup Final

Connor McDavid implored his Edmonton Oilers teammates to “drag ’em back to Alberta” after staving off elimination on Saturday.

Mission accomplished.

The Oilers are taking the Florida Panthers back with them across the border for another game after a 5-3 triumph on Tuesday in Sunrise, Fla.

The Oilers have won two in a row to narrow the Panthers’ lead in the Stanley Cup Final to 3-2. Game 6 is Friday in Edmonton.

McDavid was clearly a man on a mission on Tuesday, scoring once and also making the play of the game with a spectacular rush down the ice before feeding it to Corey Perry to put Edmonton in front 4-1. He also added an empty netter to seal the win.

The Panthers did fight back from a 3-0 deficit, but never could get back on even terms.

Connor Brown, with a short-handed goal, and Zach Hyman also scored for the Oilers.

Matthew Tkachuk, Evan Rodrigues and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Panthers.

More to come.
